Google Analytics - Day 14

A free tool with no “gotchas” every website should be using

Usually with free online tools, there is a freemium version and then a paid version with more enhanced features. But with Google Analytics, you get basically all of those usually “premium features” for free since it is backed by Google.

Step 1

Signup for Gmail Account

OR

More likely since most people already have an account just login and go to Analytics.Google.com

Step 2

Navigate to “Admin” section and click ”+ Create Account”

GA Create Account

Step 3

Fill out new GA Account form

GA Form

Step 4

Copy and paste Tracking code into the < HEAD > of your website.

<!-- Global site tag (gtag.js) - Google Analytics -->
<script async src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=UA-YOURIDHERE"></script>
<script>
  window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
  function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);}
  gtag('js', new Date());

  gtag('config', 'UA-YOURIDHERE');
</script>

Step 5

WAIT… just like yesterday’s episode, here once we have the code installed and updated on our gh-pages branch we just have to wait an hour or so to see the updated changes take place. Once that occurs we will be able to a bit of activity within Google Analytics like below:

GA Useful.ly

Conclusion

Their isn’t really a reason why you shouldn’t be using Google Analytics on your website.
