Building our Website w/ HTML - Day 6

What is A Website?

At its core, a website is simply a folder full of different files that work together to create an end result viewable to the user. Just like when you wrote that 20 page final paper in college, each page & paragraph contributes to the end story just like a website does.

Key Takeaways

  • Every website in the world from Facebook, Twitter, Airbnb, and your neighbors blog all require HTML to be viewed on the web

    • Which makes it a great place to start to learn to code
  • All websites are simply a combination of files for new pages

    • Just like a Microsoft Word can read .doc files, browsers do the same with .html files to show the end user
  • The different tags from body, h1, h2, p, a & etc. tags tell the browser how to handle certain information

    • This is where great SEO practices begin

Our First Website

Believe it or not below is all you need to build your first website. It’s not pretty, nor is it very functional, but it shows how simple HTML can be. Throughout the Zero to Startup courses we will build new features on top of this basic template as we move along through the course.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
	<head>
		<title>Website Name Here</title>
	</head>

	<body>
		<h1>Header 1 - (Site title)</h1>
		<p>paragraph tags (one of many)</p>
		<a href="https://www.useful.ly">url link</a>
	</body>
</html>
